What we know about Phoebe Jane

Phoebe Jane STUBBS was born to Robert and Rebecca STUBBS in Dubin, Ireland on 3 July 1813.

Dublin is the capitol and most populace city in Ireland.  According to Wickapedia:

"The English name for the city is derived from the Irish name Dubhlinn, meaning "black pool". Dublin is situated in the province of Leinster near the midpoint of Ireland's east coast, at the mouth of the River Liffey and the centre of the Dublin Region.
File:DublinMontage.jpgFounded as a Viking settlement, it evolved into the Kingdom of Dublin and became the island's principal city following the Norman invasion. The city expanded rapidly from the 17th century; it was briefly the second largest city in the British Empire and the fifth largest in Europe. Dublin entered a period of stagnation following the Act of Union of 1800, but it remained the economic centre for most of the island. Following the partition of Ireland in 1922, the new parliament, the Oireachtas, was located in Leinster House. Dublin became the capital of the Irish Free State and later the Republic of Ireland.
Like the cities of Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford, Dublin is administered separately from its respective County with its own City Council. The city is listed by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network (GaWC) as a global city, with a ranking of "Alpha-", placing Dublin among the top 30 cities in the world.[6][7]It is a historical and contemporary cultural centre for the country, as well as a modern centre of education, the arts, administration, economy, and industry."

Phoebe Jane arrived in the New World 22 Jul 1834 aboard the ship "Macedonia" from the port in Londonberry, England destined for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  The entire ship included passengers from Ireland who swore their allegiance to England.  While they are known to be pre-famine immigrants they came to the new world to escape failing potato crops and economic depression.  During the 30's the prices of passage dropped dramatically so the lower class folks could not afford passage when they couldn't before.
The STUBBS names indicate they were likely protestants, however the names of her children indicate a possible move to Catholicism.
Madison Township, Jackson County, OhioThe soonest we can find the STUBBS family (that we can confirm) isn't until the 1850 Census where Phoebe Jane is found in Madison, Jackson County, Ohio married to William with 5 children, the oldest being 11 years.  Thus it appears that Phoebe and William CUNNINGHAM were married as soon as she arrived in the United States.  The two older children (Elizabeth and John) were born in Pennsylvania and the remaining three children (William, Margaret and Sarah) were born in Ohio.  Also living with them in 1850  Were John and Thomas Ager also from Ireland.  William was listed as being a Farmer.  Children Mary and Robert were born later in the 1850's.

Phoebe remained in Madison Township, Jackson County, Ohio until her death and she was buried in the New Zion Cemetery at Thurman, Ohio in 1879 at the age of 65 years.  It appears that Thurman is very close to Centerville, OH and may actually be in the same locale.  This bears further investigation for a later date.

Keeping Up With The Jones'

It truely is a small world after all..............
Mike's Great Grandfather Virgil CUNNINGHAM's parents were John CUNNINGHAM AND Sarah Francis JONES. Sarah's father was John JONES son of Edward JONES.
Jean's 4th Great Grandfather, Calvin T GUNTER'S parents were John T GUNTER and Susanna JONES. Susanna was the daughter of Elijah JONES who was the son of John JONES.
The question this the same family?????
JONES is a tough family to connect to because.....well everyone who needed a new name became a SMITH or a JONES
